There is a FREE MDS Backpack download. I decided to make one for my grandson’s first day of Kindergarten. I did change the Patterned Paper I printed it on my home printer on Whisper White card stock. I think it turned out pretty cute!

DESIGN & ASSEMBLY TIPS:
~Most pieces are punches. Use the “Paper Fill” or “Color Fill” options to change the look.
~You can easily resize the elements using the gray blocks.
~ Replace “For You” and add your child’s name with text.
~I haven’t figured out how to get stripes to go the long way on the Backpack sides.
~The large piece is the main backpack and has a bottom flap so make sure all items are facing the correct direction. The long flat side is the top. The front panel is the one with the flap. The back panel will be covered up with the long piece on the second page.
~Print one off on regular printer paper to see if you need to make any adjustments. I made a couple of small adjustments to the ends. Pay attention to where the fold lines are.
~Score the fold lines before you cut out the pieces. I found it easier to use the scoring blade on my Paper Trimmer. I also found it easier to cut out with scissors.
~Use Sticky Strip on the tabs and backpack straps to hold it together.
~I scored 1-1/2″ on each end of the backpack straps. Adhere the top part of the flaps first, then the lower straps.
~The shape with tabs on the second page is the front pocket for the backpack. The little square above it is the little note card that goes inside the pocket. Score all the double score lines. Place Sticky Strip on the tabs (side & bottom) and around all four edges of the other part including the next to the score line. Adhere the tabs to form the pocket, then adhere the pocket to the lower backpack front.
~I wrote a little note on the square. I made a pull tab with Washi Tape so he could pull out the note.
~You can use Velcro to close the backpack if desired. I didn’t.
~Fill with a treat. I used a small package or Ritz Bits crackers with Cheese.
