I made a Faux Metal tag a month or so ago. I thought it was SO easy until I tried to repeat it with other embossing powders…… But I finally have completed some to share with you.
Faux Metal Technique 1
This one is really easy. Use either brushed silver or brushed gold card stock. Ink desired stamp with VersaMark ink. Stamp on desired card stock. Cover image with desired embossing powder (use silver or pewter embossing powder on the silver card stock, and gold embossing powder on the gold card stock). Melt with your Heat Tool. Great Job! Great results every time!
Faux Metal Technique 2
This is the one that gave me some challenges. The technique is simple enough. 1. Have 2 clean sheets of printer paper set out on the table. You will use one to ink up your card stock on, the other will be used for your embossing powder. 2. Ink card stock (it doesn’t really matter what color it is because the embossing powder completely covers it) with VersaMark ink pad by patting and/or rubbing the surface of the ink pad on the card stock. Try to cover it evenly. 3. Generously cover with embossing powder. Shake off the majority of it. Melt with you heat tool. 4. Repeat for a total of 4-6 layers. I needed less layers with Pewter embossing powder than I did with the Gold and Silver embossing powder. 5. Just before you melt your last layer of embossing powder, ink your stamp with VersaMark so it will come out of the embossing powder easier. 6. Melt your last layer as usual then aim your heat tool at the card stock portion (under where all the embossing powder is) and then again over the top so all areas are heated and ready to be molded. Quickly put your card stock on the table and press your stamp in firmly and slightly rock it in the hot embossing powder for a little while. Remove stamp and check out your image.
-If you got a good impression then you are done. Give yourself a “Yippee” or a Woo hoo”!
-If the impression did not come out as well as you want: reheat the embossing powder until the image bumps are smoothed out. You will probably still see the image when the bumps are smoothed out. Add another layer or two of VersaMark and embossing powder, then stamp again. This time the impression should be much more definite. Just so you know-I always get a better impression with the Pewter embossing powder.
