I am updating my blog and websites.  This may entail things not working correctly for a bit.  Please Contact Me and let me know if things are not working correctly so I can fix them.  I am also updating the graphics.

During this time I will just be doing one project post a week and letting you know the current promotions.  Check my Facebook Page on Saturday for the Weekly Challenge.  Newsletters, Local Classes, and Creative Techniques will remain at the normal schedule.  After this past six months I need to take a step back for a while to recuperate.

I will start back on the regular schedule in September.

Thank you for your patience.

Sad Day.

Today was a sad day.  It was my Father’s Funeral.  He will be greatly missed.

Here is a hand casting my sister did of my parents holding hands.
She has not finished smoothing it out yet.  It is still too hard for all of us.

Children’s Summer Crafting Ideas Part 2

Summer Fun!Here are some crafting ideas for Elementary Children and Teenagers.  Supervise and help your child while they are learning a new skill.  Then let them have fun!  (And clean up after themselves!!)

Elementary School ages.

~They can now learn to color and craft with a variety of supplies.
~They can also cut out Templates and patterns and put together things.  If you subscribe to my Newsletter you have access to a variety of Templates.
~Watercoloring with the children’s Watercolors and an AquaPainter takes the spills out of watercoloring.
~Stamping.  Teach them how to stamp and get a good image.  My grandson that lives in town was able to do this by age 4 because he was at my stamp classes and really wanted to learn.  I prefer teaching children to stamp with Wood Mount stamps.  Plan on your wood getting stained from the ink.  When they are first learning, give them a reminder on how to ink up the stamp and then press straight down and then straight up to get a good impression.  Also teach them to clean the stamps.  (Yes, I would usually clean them again after he left.  After a few months he did a good enough job by himself.)  I do have some stamp sets that are “Children’s stamps”.  I also just let them choose one color of ink for a while.  He is excited that I finally let him have two ink colors at the same time!
~Big Shot, Punches, and Bone Folders.  You can teach them how to shape punched and die cut card stock with bone folders.  They can also make some of the more complicated items with the Big Shot and Punch Boards.
~Now is also a good time to introduce finger painting.  You might want to protect their clothes with an old adult sized shirt.
~Acrylic Painting.  Let them use acrylic paints on paper, wood, and other approved surfaces.  Protect their clothes.  Teach them to clean up the paint brushes.
~Pudding Painting.  Put Pudding in a cookie sheet with sides.  Let them draw shapes, people, flowers, hearts, etc.  If you have more than 1 child, they can take turns deciding what to draw in their pudding.  This activity only lasts so long as they do keep licking the pudding off their fingers.  🙂  You can also do this with dried rice or beans.
~Have them write their own story book and illustrate it.  The stories and illustrations will get more advanced as they do this.
~Have them read a book and draw their favorite characters or scenes.  They can also do this after watching a movie or playing a video game.
~Have them make cards, pictures, books, and other items for grandparents and other relatives.  I know I always enjoy getting something made by my grandchildren.
~They can make removable pictures and decorations for their bedrooms by putting Tombow Glue on the back of the card stock item and letting the glue dry overnight.  This makes it easy to remove.  When it quits sticking you wipe it off with a slightly damp cloth, let it dry, and use it again.  Sometimes you need to add another layer of Tombow Glue and let it dry overnight again.
~Now is also a good time to teach children to crochet, knit, embroider, and sew.
~There are many children’s craft kits available in stores.  Let your child choose one and let them make it.
~Paint by number pictures are great for older children interested in painting.
~Let them decorate a wood box from the craft store.
~Basic Memory Keeping and Scrapbooking.  Project Life is great for kids (and busy adults)!
~Give them some glue and a box of craft sticks (Popsicle sticks) and let them create!  This kept my kids busy for hours!
~Pipe Cleaner creations are also fun.
~Cut out felt to make finger puppets.  You can use Felt and Fabritac glue to hold them together.  The kids can decorate them and then make up puppet shows.
~Paper Plate masks and flying saucers.  The kids can make masks to wear out of paper plates (I like the cheap, thin ones.)  Cut out the eyes and add some yarn, string, or ribbon to tie them on.  Decorate the outside of the paper plates, staple the plates together and fly them outside.  I am sure the kids can come up with other things to make with paper plates.  I know we made hats at one time.
~Elementary children can start making more food by themselves.  Mine especially enjoyed making desserts, but I taught them how to make meals too.
~Garlands and Banners.  Let them make their own garlands and banners to decorate their rooms.  They can use the Build a Banner Kit or use shapes cut out by hand or with the Big Shot or punches.

Teenagers can do all the crafting and creative things adults can do.  They may need to be shown how to do new things.  There is YouTube for that.  Some things you will want to do together.
~More advanced Kits
~Flower arranging.
~Picture and wall decor arranging
~Picture painting
~Home decorating
~Painting their bedrooms
~Making things to decorate their rooms
~Sewing duvet covers and matching pillowcases
~Sewing clothes and other items.  I sewed most of my clothes when I was a teenager.  I started out my kids with either elastic waist shorts or pajama pants.
~They should now be able to do Scrapbooks and Memory Keeping for things they want to remember.  Again, Project Life if great for this!
~Digital Crafting.  Most kids these days enjoy working on the computer.  Get them a graphics program so they can make digital art, ecards, digital scrapbooking and memory keeping, and hybrid projects for themselves.
~Video editing.  Most phones come with terrific cameras and kids are making lots of videos.  Get them a simple program to edit their videos.

Happy Summer Crafting!

Children’s Summer Crafting Ideas Part 1

Summer Fun!My 4-year-old granddaughter’s birthday was a couple of weeks ago.  I sent her some Stampin’ Up! Note cards with envelopes, the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack, Strawberry Slush Thick Baker’s Twine, and a partially used Love Notes Paper Stack for her birthday.  She has been having so much fun!  She made this card for me.  Her Mom probably tied the Baker’s Twine for her.  This made me think of what I did with my children during the Summer Months.
Handmade Card by 4 Year Old GranddaughterWith Summer in full swing (or coming shortly if you get out of school in June), you need something to help the children be happy and busy.  When my children were young we had a schedule that included an art related activity every day.  Some did enjoy it less than others, I am sad to admit.

Here are some Art and Craft related suggestions.  The ages are general.  Your child may learn slower or faster.  I am just guessing when I introduced these skills to my children.  Also teach them how to clean up when they are done.  Make it be a part of the creative process.  (I still need help with the cleaning up part.)  Feel free to advance them to more difficult skills as they are ready.

Ages 1-3.  Learning Basic Skills
~Coloring.  Children as young as 1 year old can start coloring with crayons and colored pencils with supervision and help.  Let them color on scrap papers (printing on one side).  Get them a simple coloring book when they are a little older.  I let my kids color and cut when strapped in their high chairs for the longest time……..  My youngest daughter still remembers……
~Cutting.  Get safety scissors with rounded tips.  (Get left-handed scissors if your child is a lefty.  It will keep them from getting frustrated and giving up.)  Let the child cut scrap paper over a trash can or other container.  (This will let you enjoy having them cut AND you will have less cleanup!)  Both coloring and cutting help develop their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.  They really need to learn these basic skills as a foundation for other motor and learning skills.

Ages 3-5.
~The child will hopefully be able to color more intricate pictures, if they have the desire.  Some are not really interested until they are in school.  You can now include Markers with supervised use.  Coloring on a white board is also fun.  Same with chalk boards.
~Teach them to cut around pictures they have colored or you have drawn.  Their cutting ability will get better with practice.  Again, remind them to cut over something and clean up after themselves.
~Teach them to use the Big Shot with embossing folders.  They think it is magic!  You might want to have some paper precut to fit into embossing folders.  They can also emboss the larger punched shapes.
~Teach them to use Punches-both the hand-held and the larger punches.  Also teach them to keep the punched shapes in a baggie.  (Again, so no clean up is required.)
~They can also use the Big Shot (supervised) with Bigz Dies, Thinlits, and Framelits.  Let them enjoy thinking up and making their own creations!  This is an important part of brain and motor skills development.
~Kids this age also like to help cook.  They really enjoy stirring and pouring in ingredients.  I also had them count the cups of flour and other ingredients.  Oh, Yes,  They do enjoy licking and tasting the ingredients and the finished product!  My kids who didn’t really enjoy the “craft” projects, really enjoyed the cooking and baking projects.  They are all pretty good cooks as adults.

Come back on Friday to get Summer Ideas for the Elementary age kids and Teenagers.

Happy Summer Crafting!

~May 30th.  Last day to order from the 2012-2013 Catalog.  (They didn’t mention this, but it seems logical to me.)

~April 24th.  If you are a Demonstrator (like me) you can order selected items from the NEW Catalog including all the NEW In Color Items!!  Last year they offered a couple of Bundle options with nice discounts.  We will get to view our choices online usually a week earlier than this so we have time to choose what fits in our budgets.  We know we want it ALL, but our budget does demand that we control ourselves and choose wisely.  SO if you are interested in getting a 20% Discount on all your Stampin’ Up! Products AND want to order things from the NEW Catalog earlier than the general public…. Contact Me and I can give you the information you need to get started and become a member.  You can also click the Join My Team Tab at the top of the page.

Big Changes for My Digital Studio

Starting March 18, 2013 there are some Big Changes happening with My Digital Studio.  Here is the latest My Digital Studio News right from Stampin’ Up!  Get ready to be EXCITED!!!!  Now YOU can more easily AND cheaply enjoy using My Digital Studio!  I LOVE using My Digital Studio!!  Try it out soon if you haven’t already. For the past few months, we’ve been working on some big changes to the My Digital Studio product line, and we just can’t contain ourselves anymore. Starting today (March 18, 2013):

  1. We’ve changed the name of the software from MDS 2 (and MDS 2+) to MDS.
  2. We’ve lowered the price. What has been known as MDS 2+ is now $19.95 US/$24.95 CAN.

Coming soon:

  1. The upgrade will be free! If you have been holding onto the original My Digital Studio software, you will be able to upgrade to the new software for free. We will let you know when it is available. We have discontinued the item number for the MDS 2 Upgrade (item 130650).  The upgrade will be available soon for free.
  2. We have announced that My Digital Studio will soon be available to our friends in Australia and New Zealand.

Other information:

  • MyDigitalStudio.net is currently under construction as we make all of the changes. Just keep in mind that you may see outdated information for awhile.
  • We will remove the My Digital Studio Catalog at the end March from MyDigitalStudio.net. If you would like to keep of copy of it, go grab it before then. As we announced last fall, we have not been maintaining this file and since it so outdated, we feel like it’s time to delete it.

Here are some Facts and Q&A for all the details about the changes. Software changes: ~Name: o MDS 2 (and MDS 2+) will change to MDS o MDS 2 Trial will change to MDS Trial ~The MDS software includes the same digital content (over $500 US/$650 CAN) as MDS 2+ and the item numbers are the same. o Disc (item 130647) The discs will say MDS 2+ on them until the current inventory is depleted. Remember to update your software after you install it. o Download (item130646) ~Price: o US: Reduction to from $79.95 to $19.95 o Canada: reduction from $99.95 to $24.95 ~Discontinuation of MDS 2 disc (item 130645) and download (item 130644) ~Discontinuation of MDS 2 Upgrade (item 130650) o Coming soon: free automatic upgrade from original software to MDS ~Original My Digital Studio Software (MDS 1) no longer supported. ~MDS update enhancements and fixes. o Automatic software updating o Professional Print Services login will automatically detect the user’s country with the option to manually change it. o Metric measurements (millimeter and centimeter) options added to rulers o Simplified top toolbar o Removal of multimedia features o Larger (1/8″ more) bleed area for swatchbooks, postcards, greeting cards, and trifold cards o Default image import changed to All Image Types instead of JPEG images o Recolor embellishment dialog box does not shift based on the canvas zoom level o SVG stamp object reset error o Various other minor bug fixes Other items to note: ~Due to new market research, Canadian content download pricing will be lowered—starting with the new downloads on March 19. ~For customers and demonstrators who purchased the software at full price from March 1 to March 17, the following will be added to their Download Manager by Wednesday, March 20: o MDS 2+ or MDS 2 ~Up To Date Planner Template (item133271, retail value $14.95 US/$18.50 CAN) ~Hello There Kit (item 133374, retail value $9.95 US/$12.50 CAN) ~Everyday Woodcuts Embellishments (item 132191, retail value $5.95US/$7.95 CAN) o MDS Upgrade ~Hello There Kit (item 133374, retail value $9.95 US/$12.50 CAN) Questions & Answers  Q: Why is Stampin’ Up! making these changes now? A: In preparation to launch My Digital Studio in our South Pacific market, we feel like now was the perfect time to simplify the product offering and lower the price. Q: Why is the name of the software changing? A: This is one of the ways that we decided to simplify the software offering and position ourselves for future growth. Using the previous naming convention would have made it difficult to grow the product line in the way that we plan. Q: Why is the price lower for the software? A: It’s simple! We want to help you get the software out to your customers and feel that at this lower price point more customers will join in all the digital fun. Q: What is included with the MDS software? A: It includes over $500 US/$650 CAN worth of digital content. It is the same content that was previously included with MDS 2+. You will notice that we are not promoting the value of the content as much as we have in the past. We feel as though the software is an incredible value, especially at this new, lower price and do not feel it is as necessary to promote the value of the content. Q: Can I still buy the software on a disc and as a download? A: Yes, you can buy the software as a disc (item 130647) or a download (item130646). Keep in mind that the disc will say MDS 2+ and will need to be updated after installed in order to get the latest version of the software. Q: Will the trial software still be available? A: Yes, we will continue to offer the 30-day free MDS Trial. You can download it (item 130910).  Keep in mind that the Trial Discs will say MDS 2 Trial until the current inventory is depleted. Remember to check for updates when you install the software. Q: Why are you removing the multimedia feature? A: We found that this feature was underutilized and it was the cause of many issues for users. Some of the benefits for removing it include: o Reduction of installation and startup errors. o Increased software stability with improved technology. o Better compatibility with current and future operating systems. o Makes the software ready for future feature enhancements. o Allows for automatic software updates. o No longer need QuickTime to run the software. Q: In Canada, the prices will now be lower for digital content downloads, does that mean all current prices will be lowered on March 18? A: In an effort to maintain competitive pricing in the Canadian market, we have lowered the prices for content downloads (not the software). This price change is for all downloads, going forward. We will not offer refunds for previously purchased content at the higher prices. Q: If I have the original My Digital Studio software, how can I get the free upgrade to the new MDS software?  A: We will post information about how to get the upgrade for free as soon as it is available. Q: What if I recently purchased the software at the old price? A: For customers and demonstrators who purchased the software at full price from March 1 to March 17, we will add previously selected downloads (see above) to their Download Manager in their customer accounts by Wednesday, March 20. Q: Can I still get support for the original My Digital Studio software?  A: Since we are providing a free upgrade to the new software, we no longer feel it is necessary to provide support for the original software. Please be sure to let your customers know that they should get the upgrade for free. Q: Can I still get the MDS 2 software? A: In an effort to simplify the software options, we will no longer offer the MDS 2 software disc (item 130645) and download (item 130644). Happy Digital Stamping! Nendy

Moving Forward-Child’s Birthday Card

My grandson turned 2 on Monday and so, of course, I made him a card.  This time I used  the Moving Forward stamp set.  Three Dollars is donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities for each Moving Forward stamp set purchased.  I know we appreciated staying at the Ronald McDonald House when my son had surgery.  Here are more details about Stampin’ Up’s partnership with the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Child's Birthday Card

Stamps:  Moving Forward w#126320  c#126322
Ink:  Pacific Point ink pad & marker
Card Stock:  Pacific Point
Whisper White
Sunshine & Sprinkles Designer Series Paper #130670
Big Shot:  Ovals Collection #129381
Typeset Alphabet Bigz Dies #127553  (OR just write the number with your Marker)
Punch:  Small Oval #130908
Other:  Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue
Medium Translucent Clear Envelope #102619

1.  Cut your Pacific Point card base at 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″.  Cut your Whisper White and Designer Series Paper at 4″ x 5-1/4″.  Make sure the clouds are going the correct way.  I had to cut another piece.  Embarassed  Adhere the Cloud Designer Series Paper to one side of your card base using the Tombow Glue.  (Note:  I always do a “Post Card” for younger children and seal it in a Translucent Envelope so they can hold it without damaging it.  I also use Tombow Glue to adhere all the parts when making cards for children.)
2.  Stamp the “Blimp” image in Pacific Point ink on Whisper White card stock.  Cut it out using the coordinating size Oval Framelit and your Big Shot.  Adhere to the “Clouds” with Tombow Glue leaving enough room to write the child’s name underneath.  You might as well write their name now in the space you left.
3.  Cut the “2” out of Pacific Point card stock using the Typeset Alphabet Die and your Big Shot.  Punch 2 Small Oval “Balloons”  out of Pacific Point card stock.  Adhere in desired positions using Tombow Glue.  Draw Balloon Strings with your Pacific Point marker.  You can also decorate your Balloons with your Marker if desired.
4.  Write your message on the 4″ x 5-1/4″ Whisper White card stock you cut earlier.  Adhere to the back of your card with Tombow Glue.
5.  Seal tightly in the Translucent Envelope.  Your card will still fit in a Medium Stampin’ Up! envelope.
6.  Mail or give to one of your favorite children!

You can buy all the supplies to make this Child’s Birthday Card at My Online Store.

Happy Stamping!

Boutique Designer Box & Card

I thought the Boutique Boxes Designer Printed Kit looked fun in the Spring 2013 Catalog and I finally made one.  It was quick and easy.  The boxes are die cut.  The die cuts on the sheet are not adhesive so you can do a variety of things with them although I did adhere everything down with SNAIL and Glue Dots.  The Doilies are laser cut!  There are also little note cards that come with the Kit.  They come scored with a printed design on one half and a solid color on the other half.  You can really have a lot of fun putting together different combinations using the embellishments.  Except for adhesive I just used what was in the Boutique Boxes Designer Printed Kit.  You can also choose to Bundle it with a stamp set.
Boutique Box and CardSo have some fun making these little Boutique Boxes and brightening someone’s day with them!

Have Fun!

My NEW Favicon and Get Organized with the Newest MDS Downloads

What is a Favicon?  Do you see the little pictures on your tabs at the top of your browser?  That little picture is called a Favicon.  I was tired of seeing a piece of paper picture at the top of mine so I finally found someone to teach me how to do it.  I designed mine using My Digital Studio.  Now, why does that surprise you?  You should know by now that I really LIKE using My Digital Studio.  In fact the Valentine card I will be posting tomorrow was made with My Digital Studio.

Now back to the Favicon.  You need a square 16 x 16 pixel image.  Super-small!  But you can select or design any image and there are programs online to help you turn your image into a Favicon in less than 5 minutes.  I will show you what I started with before I downsized it.
Nendy's FaviconI selected the square Tag.  I left the Background alone.  I used the Fancy Flower Punch and colored it Bashful Blue.  I added a Brilliant Blue Mat.  I found an “N” I liked and colored it Brilliant Blue also.  I saved it as a .png file.  Then went to this site:  http://www.favicon.cc/, uploaded and saved my image.  The WordPress Theme I am using (today it is Mantra) has a place to upload a favicon so I did that.  And so now you can see my little flower favicon with an “N” up in your Browser Tab.

Don’t forget–today is the last day to snatch up content discs on the Clearance Rack for just $1 each.

We made the Honeycomb Card at my Class on Friday.  One of my Stampers asked if she could make a baby card.  I knew this card would be easy to change into a baby card.  I do let my Stampers tweak their cards at class.  I enjoy seeing what they come up with.  So I will show you some of the cards my Stampers made at Stamp Class on Friday.  They follow the same basic directions as the Honeycomb Card I posted on January 4th for my Newsletter Subscribers.  I hope you enjoy these variations as much as I do!  You can subscribe to My Newsletter if you want more projects like this.

Now enjoy the Card pictures!  Which is YOUR favorite?  Let me know by leaving a comment.

New MY Digital Studio Features Added & Lower Print Prices

MDS Symbol for BlogNew Design Features in MDS 2
Along with lowering print prices, we added four more of the MDS 2 design features:

  • CROP PUNCHES: Show off part of the punch and hide the rest
  • PAPER RIP OPTION: Create torn edges with Designer Series Paper, card stock, and photos
  • IMPORT FROM OTHER PROJECT: Toggle between projects to import elements onto current project
  • MULTIPLE PAGE VIEW OPTIONS: View your page with trimmed bleed areas (in addition to viewing in single pages and spreads)

See all 75+ new design features here, and see the latest fixes here.

Lower Print Prices

We’re happy to let you know that we’ve lowered all of our My Digital Studio print product prices-permanently! That’s right. Now you can print your photobooks, cards, calendars, and other projects for less. You’ll notice some have even been lowered up to 50 percent! The quality of our print products is top in the industry, and now our prices are competitive with the other big online printing companies too! See the new prices here.

We’ve also improved our shipping costs by simplifying them. We used to charge a small “split shipping fee” for orders that had both print products and traditional Stampin’ Up! products, but we’ve done away with that. See the new My Digital Studio shipping prices on the second page of this PDF here.

Update Your Software to Get the Lower Print Prices & New Features

To access the lower prices and new features, make sure to get the latest update for your MDS 2 software-even if you’re using the trial version. Just go to Help and then Check for Updates and in a couple minutes you’ll be all set. Tell your customers to do the same!

Check out My Online Store for My Digital Studio products and downloads.
