Artistic Etchings “Chalkboard” Card

When I first saw the Chalkboard Technique I was pretty intimidated thinking it would be hard or complicated.  Let me tell you….. It is SO EASY!!!  It also requires very few supplies to make a great impression!  So give it a try and let me know if you think it is easy.  We made this card at my last Stamp Class.  It was a hit!
Artistic Etching Chalkboard Card(Note:  The Whisper White ink that is sponged on shows up a LOT MORE in the photo than in real life.)

SUPPLIES:
Stamps:  Artistic Etchings w#118517  c#120573
Seasonal Sayings
w#128006  c#128009
Card Stock:
 Cherry Cobbler
Basic Black
Ink:  VersaMark
Whisper White (optional)
Other:  White Embossing Powder #109132
Heat Tool #129053
Cherry Cobbler 1/2″ Seam Binding Ribbon #120992
Whisper White 1/4″ Stitched Grosgrain  Ribbon #126877
Hung Up Cute Clips #129389  OR Elements Cute Clips #129939
SNAIL adhesive
Stamping Sponge

INSTRUCTIONS:
1.  Cut your Cherry Cobbler card base at 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″.  Score and fold at 4-1/4″.
2.  Cut your Basic Black card stock at 4″ x 5-1/4″.
3.  Here is how you do the Chalkboard Technique.  Put a piece of printer paper on your work surface to help contain the embossing powder.  Lay your Basic Black card stock layer on top of printer paper.  Stamp Atristic Etchings  and Seasonal Sayings images in the desired position using VersaMark ink.  Yes you can stamp all of the images at once.  Then dump your white embossing powder on top of you inked card stock, making sure to cover all the stamped images.  Pour excess embossing powder back into container.  Flick the back of your card stock to get the last bit of excess embossing off your card stock.  Use your Heat Tool on high to melt the embossing powder, being careful not to burn your fingers.  TaDa!  You now have your basic Chalkboard images.
4.  Cut the tips of your ribbons into a “V” by folding your ribbon in half and cutting towards the bottom edge.  Adhere to desired place on card.  I ran SNAIL along the back of the ribbons to hold them in place.  Adhere the part of the ribbon that hangs over to the back of the Basic Black layer.  Add the desired clip.
5.  Adhere your Basic Black layer to your Cherry Cobbler card base with SNAIL.
6.  If you want the “Chalkboard Dust” effect:  Get a light layer of Whisper White Craft ink onto your stamping sponge and swipe at your “Chalkboard” until you get the desired effect.
7.  Admire your trendy card!

Happy Stamping!

Easter Blessings and Secret Garden

The Easter Blessings stamp is paired with the Secret Garden Bundle and the Sunshine and Sprinkles Designer Series Paper to make a bright Easter Card.  We made this card at my March Stamp Class.  Several people used different sentiments.  All the cards were beautiful, but I did forget to take pictures.  The Sunshine & Sprinkles Designer Series Paper is becoming one of my favorites!  It works well with many different stamp sets and for many occasions-serious, fun, and whimsical.

Bunny and Bird Punch Art

I wanted to make the Easter Bunny Card with my grandson when he came over last Friday.  He wanted the WHOLE Bunny not just the part of the head and ears.  So I adapted, nice grandmother that I am.  I had seen several Punch Art Bunnies so I guessed at what I had seen.  He really wanted to make a Bunny that turned into a Bird.  I told him I didn’t know how to do that, but we could make a Bunny and a Bird.  He happily chose the colors from my scraps and we punched away.  He wanted two eyes on the Bird so the Bird would be able to see so that is why the Bird’s face is facing forward.
Bunny and Bird Punch Art

SUPPLIES:
Scraps of card stock.  He chose Raspberry Ripple for the Bunny and Pink Pirouette for the Bird.  I chose Whisper White for my Bunny.  He used the Pink Pirouette for the Bird.
Punches:  1″ Circle for heads #119868
Extra Large Oval for bodies #119859
Large Oval for ears, the Red Bunny’s Feet, and the bird wing #119855
Retired Medium Oval for inside Bunny Ears and White Bunny Feet
Word Window for Bunny Arms and Bird legs and feet #119857
Scallop Square for Bird tail  #119884
Other:  Silicone Craft Sheet  #127853 (really nice to keep the glue in one spot when letting children glue!!!)
Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue
Googlie Eyes from the Holiday catalog or just draw them on with a Marker
Basic Black Marker (or other colors) as desired for drawing on faces and other details.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Bunny

1.  Choose the color card stock you want for the Bunny Body and the inside of the Bunny ears.
2.  Bunny Body.  Punch a 1″ circle for the head, two Large Ovals for the ears, 1 Extra Large Oval for the body, two Word Windows for the arms, and two bunny feet in the desired size
3.  Inside Bunny Ears.  Punch or cut two ovals.
4.  Assembly.  Glue the Inside Bunny Ears to the Bunny Ears pieces.  Hold a few seconds to let them adhere.  Now decide where you want to put the ears on the head.  Place a small amount of Tombow Glue on the part of the Bunny Ear you want to go behind the Bunny Head.  Adhere ears.
5.  Adhere Bunny Head on top of Extra Large Oval Body in the desired position.  Add Word Window punches in the desired positions for the arms.
6.  Add the Bunny Feet in the desired positions, either in front of the Bunny Body or behind, whichever you like best.
7.  Now add the Googlie Eyes to  you Bunny Face.  If you don’t have Googlie Eyes you can just draw circles for the eyes.  Draw on the Nose, Mouth, Whiskers, and Whisker Dots and any other features desired.  My grandson drew eyebrows.
8.  You can now adhere your Bunny to something or just let the child play with it.  The arms will get bent, but the rest holds up pretty well to being played with by a four-year-old.

Bird
1.  Punch out of the desired card stock color(s):  1″ Circle for Head, Extra Large Oval for body, Large Oval for Wing, part of a Scallop Square for tail, and two Word Windows for legs and feet.
2.  Glue the Head and Body in desired positions.  Decide how much of the Scallop Square you want showing for the tail.  Glue on the Tail and trim to get the desired look.  Glue on the wing.
3.  Face.  Decide how you want the face to look.  Attach the Googlie Eye(s).  Draw on a beak or use a small scrap of card stock to make a beak.  Make sure there is enough to glue it on.  Do any drawing or coloring with Markers to get the desired look.
4.  Add feet and legs if desired.  I cut each Word Window in half (yes, they were unequal halves).  Glue two on for the legs making sure the bottoms are level.  Cut little toes from the smaller parts of the Word Windows and glue on behind the legs.  Hold for several seconds to let them adhere.  Trim as desired.
5.  Adhere to a card if desired or just let the child play with it.  This held up really well when played with.

Happy Punching!

Easter Bunny Card

This cute Bunny card was one of the Make & Takes at our March downline meeting.  It uses the new Oval Collection Framelits.  This is a fun little Easter or Spring card.  It was fairly simple to make and all of our Bunnies turned out cute.
Bunny Card

Dimensionals

INSTRUCTIONS:
1.  Cut your Daffodil Delight card base at 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″.  Score and fold at 4-1/4″.   Stam your card front with the Distressed Dots and the Daffodil Delight Ink.  I have found the easiest way to get a good impression with the larger stamps is to ink it up well, then lay the stamp on the table with the rubber side up.  Place your card stock onto the stamp carefully.  Then hold your card stock with a finger or two and rub a clear mount block or the wood block over the card stock, switching where you are holding the card stock, so all parts of the card get rubbed with the block.
2.  Now get out your Big Shot and Oval Framelits.  Ears.  Cut two of the smallest ovals out of Marina Mist.  Cut two of the next larger size of ovals out of Whisper White.  Skip an oval and use the fourth oval from the center to cut the head.
3.  Glue your Ear Parts together with the Marina Mist on top of the Whisper White.  Run them through your Big Shot with the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder.
4.  Angle the Largest Oval for the Bunny Head.  You might also want to lay the ears in position too to make sure that is the angle you want both the head and the ears to be.  Glue down the Head and the ears in the desired positions.
5.  Punch two Basic Black Itty Bitty circles for the eyes.  Punch a Small Heart for the Nose.  Glue the eyes and nose in the desired positions.  Draw whiskers, whisker dots and the Bunny mouth with your Basic Black Marker.  Your Bunny is finished.
6.  Punch a Scallop Oval out of Marina Mist card stock.  Stamp Happy Easter in Marina Mist on Whisper White card stock.  Punch with the Large Oval punch.  Adhere Happy Easter to to the Scallop Oval with Dimensionals.  Adhere this to your card base with Dimensionals.
7.  Admire your cute Bunny Card!

Happy Stamping!

Big Changes for My Digital Studio

Starting March 18, 2013 there are some Big Changes happening with My Digital Studio.  Here is the latest My Digital Studio News right from Stampin’ Up!  Get ready to be EXCITED!!!!  Now YOU can more easily AND cheaply enjoy using My Digital Studio!  I LOVE using My Digital Studio!!  Try it out soon if you haven’t already. For the past few months, we’ve been working on some big changes to the My Digital Studio product line, and we just can’t contain ourselves anymore. Starting today (March 18, 2013):

  1. We’ve changed the name of the software from MDS 2 (and MDS 2+) to MDS.
  2. We’ve lowered the price. What has been known as MDS 2+ is now $19.95 US/$24.95 CAN.

Coming soon:

  1. The upgrade will be free! If you have been holding onto the original My Digital Studio software, you will be able to upgrade to the new software for free. We will let you know when it is available. We have discontinued the item number for the MDS 2 Upgrade (item 130650).  The upgrade will be available soon for free.
  2. We have announced that My Digital Studio will soon be available to our friends in Australia and New Zealand.

Other information:

  • MyDigitalStudio.net is currently under construction as we make all of the changes. Just keep in mind that you may see outdated information for awhile.
  • We will remove the My Digital Studio Catalog at the end March from MyDigitalStudio.net. If you would like to keep of copy of it, go grab it before then. As we announced last fall, we have not been maintaining this file and since it so outdated, we feel like it’s time to delete it.

Here are some Facts and Q&A for all the details about the changes. Software changes: ~Name: o MDS 2 (and MDS 2+) will change to MDS o MDS 2 Trial will change to MDS Trial ~The MDS software includes the same digital content (over $500 US/$650 CAN) as MDS 2+ and the item numbers are the same. o Disc (item 130647) The discs will say MDS 2+ on them until the current inventory is depleted. Remember to update your software after you install it. o Download (item130646) ~Price: o US: Reduction to from $79.95 to $19.95 o Canada: reduction from $99.95 to $24.95 ~Discontinuation of MDS 2 disc (item 130645) and download (item 130644) ~Discontinuation of MDS 2 Upgrade (item 130650) o Coming soon: free automatic upgrade from original software to MDS ~Original My Digital Studio Software (MDS 1) no longer supported. ~MDS 2.3.0.494 update enhancements and fixes. o Automatic software updating o Professional Print Services login will automatically detect the user’s country with the option to manually change it. o Metric measurements (millimeter and centimeter) options added to rulers o Simplified top toolbar o Removal of multimedia features o Larger (1/8″ more) bleed area for swatchbooks, postcards, greeting cards, and trifold cards o Default image import changed to All Image Types instead of JPEG images o Recolor embellishment dialog box does not shift based on the canvas zoom level o SVG stamp object reset error o Various other minor bug fixes Other items to note: ~Due to new market research, Canadian content download pricing will be lowered—starting with the new downloads on March 19. ~For customers and demonstrators who purchased the software at full price from March 1 to March 17, the following will be added to their Download Manager by Wednesday, March 20: o MDS 2+ or MDS 2 ~Up To Date Planner Template (item133271, retail value $14.95 US/$18.50 CAN) ~Hello There Kit (item 133374, retail value $9.95 US/$12.50 CAN) ~Everyday Woodcuts Embellishments (item 132191, retail value $5.95US/$7.95 CAN) o MDS Upgrade ~Hello There Kit (item 133374, retail value $9.95 US/$12.50 CAN) Questions & Answers  Q: Why is Stampin’ Up! making these changes now? A: In preparation to launch My Digital Studio in our South Pacific market, we feel like now was the perfect time to simplify the product offering and lower the price. Q: Why is the name of the software changing? A: This is one of the ways that we decided to simplify the software offering and position ourselves for future growth. Using the previous naming convention would have made it difficult to grow the product line in the way that we plan. Q: Why is the price lower for the software? A: It’s simple! We want to help you get the software out to your customers and feel that at this lower price point more customers will join in all the digital fun. Q: What is included with the MDS software? A: It includes over $500 US/$650 CAN worth of digital content. It is the same content that was previously included with MDS 2+. You will notice that we are not promoting the value of the content as much as we have in the past. We feel as though the software is an incredible value, especially at this new, lower price and do not feel it is as necessary to promote the value of the content. Q: Can I still buy the software on a disc and as a download? A: Yes, you can buy the software as a disc (item 130647) or a download (item130646). Keep in mind that the disc will say MDS 2+ and will need to be updated after installed in order to get the latest version of the software. Q: Will the trial software still be available? A: Yes, we will continue to offer the 30-day free MDS Trial. You can download it (item 130910).  Keep in mind that the Trial Discs will say MDS 2 Trial until the current inventory is depleted. Remember to check for updates when you install the software. Q: Why are you removing the multimedia feature? A: We found that this feature was underutilized and it was the cause of many issues for users. Some of the benefits for removing it include: o Reduction of installation and startup errors. o Increased software stability with improved technology. o Better compatibility with current and future operating systems. o Makes the software ready for future feature enhancements. o Allows for automatic software updates. o No longer need QuickTime to run the software. Q: In Canada, the prices will now be lower for digital content downloads, does that mean all current prices will be lowered on March 18? A: In an effort to maintain competitive pricing in the Canadian market, we have lowered the prices for content downloads (not the software). This price change is for all downloads, going forward. We will not offer refunds for previously purchased content at the higher prices. Q: If I have the original My Digital Studio software, how can I get the free upgrade to the new MDS software?  A: We will post information about how to get the upgrade for free as soon as it is available. Q: What if I recently purchased the software at the old price? A: For customers and demonstrators who purchased the software at full price from March 1 to March 17, we will add previously selected downloads (see above) to their Download Manager in their customer accounts by Wednesday, March 20. Q: Can I still get support for the original My Digital Studio software?  A: Since we are providing a free upgrade to the new software, we no longer feel it is necessary to provide support for the original software. Please be sure to let your customers know that they should get the upgrade for free. Q: Can I still get the MDS 2 software? A: In an effort to simplify the software options, we will no longer offer the MDS 2 software disc (item 130645) and download (item 130644). Happy Digital Stamping! Nendy

2.  Cut your Gumball Green layer at 4″ x 5-1/4″.  Cut your Print Poetry layer at 5″ x 4-1/2″.  Fold your Print Poetry down 1-3/4″.  Use the Scallop Border Bunch on the folded over edge.  Adhere the Print Poetry DSP to the Gumball Green with SNAIL.  Wrap the Primrose Petals ribbon around the folded over part of the Print Poetry DSP and tie a knot.  Now adhere these layers to your Primrose Petals card base.
3.  Stamp your Feel Goods sentiment in Primrose Petals ink on Very Vanilla card stock.  Cut it out using the desired size Windows Framelit.  Make sure the Framelit is going the direction you desire.  The original card had the Framelit with the rounded part at the top.  I do like it the way I did it though.  Decide where you want your sentiment and arrange your ribbon in the position you want it.  Now adhere your sentiment with Dimensionals.
4.  Admire your pretty card.

Pop-Up Posies Card

Here is a fun little card made with the Pop-Up Posies Kit and the stamp included with the Kit.  Although I think I will be adding a couple of the Sale-a-bration Buttons to the card as “flower centers” when I get a chance.  Have fun making this fun little card and the 3D Flower.  You can use the Cajun Craze & Calypso Coral combination or try it Pool Party & Island Indigo or Baja Breeze & Pacific Point.  Or try all three combinations and let me know which you like best.

Pop-Up Posies Fancy Favor Gift Bag

I LOVE making Fancy Favor Gift Bags and the Pop-Up Posies Kit is just perfect to embellish it!  You can have a fun little gift bag in less than 10 minutes!  Enjoy making your own version!  You can also use flower punches and Label or Window Framelits to decorate it if you don’t have the Pop-Up Posies Kit.
Pop-Up Posies Fancy Favor Bag

SUPPLIES:
* = Spring 2013 Catalog *Pop-Up Posies Kit #131395
Card Stock:

Your choice of:  Pacific Point, Cajun Craze, Calypso Coral, or Island Indigo.
Ink:
When this Kit is no longer available you can use any Framelit or Big Shot Die in place of the embossed labels and Punched Flowers to get the look you want.

INSTRUCTIONS:
1.  Cut your desired color of card stock at 5-1/2″ x 11″ for your Fancy Favor die.  I used Pacific Point.    Run it through your Big Shot with your Fancy Favor XL Bigz Die cutting of part of the side tab.  I used an Extended Cutting Plate on the top and bottom since I didn’t want the side creases well-defined.
2.  Assemble your Fancy Favor Bag.  Fold all creases for the corners and bottom flaps (skip the side pleats).  Lay the outside facing up.  Put Sticky Strip on the side tab along the crease, on the outside edges of both rectangle flaps and one triangle flap.  Flip your Fancy Favor over and put Sticky Strip on the edge of the last triangle flap.
3.  Adhere your side Tab to the edge of your Fancy Favor Bag.  Now stand it upside-down so the bottom flaps are on the top.  Remove the Sticky Strip backing.  Place the two rectangle flaps down to form the bottom of the box.  Next place the triangle flap that has the Sticky Strip facing up onto the two rectangle flaps.  Now place the last triangle flap down.  Turn your Fancy Favor bag over and use your Bone Folder to press against the areas where the Sticky Strip is so it adheres well.
4.  Shape your Posies with long thin handled paint brush by laying the paint brush across the flower so it is in the center of two opposite petals.  Fold the petals around the paint brush, leaving the flower center flat.  Repeat this process with all the petals on each flower you want to use.  I used 3 flowers.  Line them up and pierce a hole through the center and insert brad.  Place Petals in desired positions and use a Glue Dot or two if necessary in the center to hold the petals in place.
5.  Decide where you want your flower to be.  Stamp the sentiment “Just for You” which is included in your Kit with Black StazOn ink in the top of your embossed label.
6.  Adhere your flower to the embossed label with several Glue Dots or Dimensionals.  Tie a bow with the ribbon and attach it with a Glue Dot.
7.  Adhere the decorated embossed label to your Fancy Favor Bag with either Glue Dots or Dimesionals.
8.  Now to put a little surprise in it for a special someone……….

Newest MDS Downloads

Here are the new My Digital Studio downloads for today.  I have been having Internet issues today so that is why I didn’t post earlier.  My 5-year-old granddaughter spent the afternoon making a card for her parents.  She had a lot of fun with choosing embellishments.  She resized them by herself after a demonstration.  She also had fun distorting a couple of them.  She also recolored some of them.  She typed the lettering and changed the color.  She was very pleased with the way it turned out.  I did add drop shadows to her project.  We emailed the card to her parents.  She was SO EXCITED when her Mom said she liked it!  Her Dad is still at work.  So are you ready to see her masterpiece yet?  Here it is.

Pop-Up Posies Banner

The Pop-Up Posies Kit is really fun to use!  I made a Banner, decorated a Fancy Favor Gift Bag, and made a card.  I still have lots of Posy flower pieces left to decorate more things.  The Pop-Up Posies Instructions suggested using a lot more Posy Flower pieces but I didn’t like those as well.  I have used less flower pieces and like the way the flowers look much better.  I hope you enjoy making your own versions.  We will be making these projects at my Classes an March 22nd.

White Baker’s Twine if you want more to hang up your Banner

When this Kit is no longer available you can use any Framelit or Big Shot Die and Punched Flowers to get the look you want.

BANNER INSTRUCTIONS:
1.  Decide what word you want on your Banner.  I chose “Create“.  There are 9 of the embossed labels in the kit.  So if you want more than 9 letters and spaces you will need a second kit.
2.  You can choose either Pacific Point, Cajun Craze, or Island Indigo for the letters.  I used Pacific Point since it was brighter.
3.  I used 2″ squares to cut out the letters.  You can cut out multiple letters on the die and several of the same letter can be cut at one time because there are no score lines on the die.
4.  Assemble your flowers using as many layers of the flowers as you want.
Daisy.  I used a thin handled paint brush to shape the flowers.  Lay the handle across the flower down the center of two petals.  Fold the petals around the handle, but don’t fold the center of the flower.  Continue this process on all the Daisy type flowers you want to use.  Layer them together and pierce a hole through the center with your Paper Piercing tool.  Insert the desired brad from the kit.  Align or stagger the petals as desired.
White Flowers.  I just used two each of the large and medium “cupcake liner” flowers and one of the small ones.  For the large and medium ones I laid the two of the same size together and cut every third line to the flat part.  I cut every 2nd line on the smallest one.  Layer the Large ones together, staggering the cut lines.  Now add the medium ones also staggering the cut lines.  Add the small one.  Make sure they are in the position you want and pierce a hole through the center.  Insert the desired brad from the kit.  Fluff up the petals as desired.
5.  Take the desired number of embossed labels and lay them out in a line.  Pierce a hole on the top two corners of each one.
6.  Lay out one letter on each embossed label.  Decide where to put the flowers.  Make more if necessary.  Adhere the letters with Tombow Glue.
7.  Connect the embossed labels with the cut Baker’s Twine included in the Kit.  I tied a bow.
8.  Now adhere the Flowers in the desired positions with Glue Dots.
9.  Add enough extra Baker’s Twine to the outside ends of the Banner so you can hang it up on your wall.
10.  Stand back and admire your lovely Banner.

There is quite a variety today in the NEW My Digital Studio Downloads.  Easter, a photobook, book label, and the Feel Goods stamp brush set.  My favorite this week is the Easter Ensemble with 7 Designer Series Papers and cute little bunnies!  See the picture below.  (It is the second one listed.)  Isn’t it cute?

Also, remember to sign up for My Paper Pumpkin by Sunday, March 10th if you don’t want to miss any kits.  Each Kit (Except the Welcome Kit and Try It Kit) will be offered for only ONE MONTH!  No second chances.  Please choose me as your Demonstrator:  Nendy Kerr, zip code 85635.  This is a monthly crafting kit subscription ($19.95 shipping included in the price) that will come in the mail every month.  You can skip a month if you need to.  You can cancel at any time.  These kits will have a variety of projects that are quick and easy – about 30 minutes if you follow the directions exactly.  I am not very good at that.  I know the Welcome Kit has 4 cards.  I will make one of them the suggested way and embellish the other three.  Smile
