Autumn Wreath

Autumn starts this week.  I made this Autumn Wreath inspired by the one on page 185 in the 2013-2014 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog.  It took about 2 hours to make which included figuring everything out.  Have fun making an Autumn Wreath of your own!
Autumn or Fall Wreath

SUPPLIES:
Card Stock:  Tangerine Tango
Crushed Curry
Early Espresso
Sweater Weather Designer Series Paper #132184
Big Shot:  Autumn Accents Bigz Die #127812
Gift Bow Bigz L Die #129977
Chalk Talk Framelits  #129983
Typeset Alphabet Bigz Dies #127553
Embossing Folders:  Stripes  #123128
Woodgrain  #127821
Chevron #127749
Houndstooth  #123134
Argyle  #127750
Punch:  1-1/4″ Scallop Circle  #127811
Ribbon:  18″ of 1/8″ Pumpkin Pie Taffeta Ribbon  #119253
1-2 rolls of Chocolate Chip 3/4″ Chevron Ribbon  #130014 (Depending how tightly you wrap it.  The first time I had about 8″ of the wreath fom uncovered.  The third time I had about 6″ of ribbon left.)
Other:  18″ Flat Wood Wreath form (from your local craft store)
Antique Brad
Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue
Fabritac -optional (from your local craft or fabric store)
Glue Dots
Glue Gun
Paper Piercing Tool & Mat
Simply Scored Tool

INSTRUCTIONS:
1.  Wreath Frame.  Use a couple of Glue Dots to attach your Chevron Ribbon to the back of your Wreath Frame.  Wrap your Ribbon around the Wreath Form.  I overlapped about 1/4 at the bottom (inside) and just barely overlapped at the top outside of the frame.  Continue until done.  Adhere the end of the ribbon to the frame with either Fabritac or Tombow.  Hold ribbon in place while it sets-about a minute or two.  You will have to hold the ribbon in place longer with the Tombow.
Leaves
2.  Cut your Leaves using the Autumn Accents Bigz Die.  You can cut 3-4 layers of card stock and up to 6 layers of Designer Series Paper at a time with the Bigz Dies.  I will give you the number of each leaf and color I used.  I did use more of the yellow leaves, but you can use the combination you like the best.  I personally just cut a bunch of leaves and have plenty left over for other fall cards.
~Card Stock is cut at 3-1/2″ x 11″.  You can get both of the two largest leaves twice.  If you want to cut just the number of leaves I used the large leaf is 3-1/2″ square.  The longer leaf is 2-1/2″ x 3-1/2″.
~~Tangerine Tango-Large:  4  Longer:  1
~~Crushed Curry-Large:  4  Longer:  4
~~Early Espresso-Large:  3  Longer:  1
~DSP is cut at 3-1/2″ x 5-1/2″.  You can get the two larger leaves once from this size.
~~Yellow Plaid-Large:  3  Longer:  2 (Back side is blue polka dot)
~~Yellow Slanted Zig Zag-Large:  1  Longer: 2 (Back side is brown & Blue plaid)
~~Yellow Star-Large:  3  Longer:  1  (Back side is orange houndstooth with blue background)
~~Brown Chevron-Large:  1  Longer:  0 (Back side is blue design)
3.  I embossed the card stock leaves with a variety of embossing folders.  I can’t remember if I could get two or three in at a time, but tried to put different colors in each time a ran it through to give a variety of textures.  I folded the DSP leaves in half lengthwise and did a fold to the center of two of the sides.  The longer leaves I just folded in half.  I did this to add dimension to the leaves since real leaves are not perfectly flat like paper.
4.  I placed the card stock leaves on the ribbon placing them at different angles and trying not to have the same color of leaf touching, or having the same texture touching.  I adhered them with Tombow Glue.  I did about 5 or 6 card stock leaves then added some DSP leaves on top.  I then repeated the process until I was happy.  The main leaf area is about 12″ wide.
5.  The Bow.  Cut 3 Tangerine Tango of the long bow part and 2 Crushed Curry of the long bow part.  I cut them from about 3″ x 11″ card stock trimming the corners that stuck over the edges of the Bow Die.  You will also need two about 3″ circles or squares – of any scrap. (You won’t see them from the front.)  Punch a 1-1/4″ Tangerine Tango Scallop Circle.  Use your Bone Folder to curl the bow parts.
6.  Assemble your Bow.  (Note:  Positions mentioned are the number positions on an analog clock.  So the 12:00 position is the very top part of your Wreath Frame and 6:00 is the bottom.)
a.  Crushed Curry.  Assemble these as the directions tell you.  Match up the straight parts and hook together with Glue Dots being careful not to put your Glue Dots in the center.   It makes it VERY HARD to get your Paper Piercing Tool Through the center!!  Repeat with the second one.
b.  Tangerine Tango.  Put a Glue Dot on the back of each side about 1″ from the center.  Attach your Bow end here instead of in the center.  Do this with all three.
c.  Put Glue Dots on either side of the center of each one Crushed Curry Bow part.  Adhere the second one making sure they are evenly spaced.  Pierce a hole in the center.
d.  Place Glue dots on either side of the center of each Tangerine Tango Bow part.  Adhere to each other making sure they are evenly placed.  Pierce a hole in the center.
e.  Take your 1-1/4″ Scallop Circle and snip a about 2/3 of the way to the center on every other scallop so it will bend in some.  Pierce a hole in the center and put your brad through the hole.  Next put your brad through the Crushed Curry Bow parts and then the Tangerine Tango Bow Parts.  Spread out the tips of the brad which will be very short.
f.  Put hot glue on one of the 3″ circles or squares and attach your bow to it while flattening out your bow.  Don’t burn yourself!!
g.  Take the other circle or square and attach two large Crushed Curry leaves with Tombow Glue on opposite sides and two longer Crushed Curry leaves in between so that the large leaves are at the 12:00 and 6:00 positions and the longer ones are at 3:00 and 9:00.  Add large DSP leaves in between.  Adhere these leaves to the circle or square under the bow.  I just used Tombow Glue here.
h.  With your leaves in the 3:00-5:00 position, adhere your Bow & Leaf combination in the 12:00 position using either Fabritac or your Glue Gun.  Tombow isn’t strong enough.
7.  Banner
a.  Cut six Tangerine Tango Chalk Talk Labels using the Framelits and your Big Shot.  I just used a half sheet and kept moving the Framelit around.
b.  Cut the Letters from 2″ squares of Crushed Curry.  You can cut multiple letters at the same time on the die and cut both “U”s at the same time.
c.  Score 1/4″ at one end of the Chalk Talk die cuts.   Use your Bone Folder to make a good fold line.
d.  Fold the little tab part over the 1/8″ Taffeta ribbon and put a Glue Dot on the end of the rounded part to adhere to the back of the card stock trying not to adhere the ribbon.  Adhere all the tabs to the ribbon.
e.  Now glue the letters to the banner labels using Tombow Glue.  Use just a super thin line of Tombow so it won’t squish out and make a mess.
f.  Use Fabritac or your Glue Gun to adhere the ribbon at the 10:00 and 2:00 positions on your Wreath Frame.  Cover the ends of your ribbon with a large Tangerine Tango leaf using Tombow Glue.  Now attach a long DSP leaf.
8.  Admire your fun Autumn Wreath and hang it up for everyone to enjoy!

Guest Stamper-Halloween Trick or Treat Banners

I had a Play Date last week with a couple of friends over to craft and Deborah made two Trick or Treat Banners for family members.

Deborah's Ghost Trick or Treat Banner
Deborah's Polka Dot Trick or Treat BannerShe used two sheets of Frightful Sight Designer Series Paper (retired) to make her Banners.  She used printer paper patterns to cut out the large Perfect Pennant Bigz Die triangles.  She used Dotto Removable Adhesive to hold the triangles in place while she cut the DSP.  She used the Perfect Pennants Die to cut the smaller triangles.  The Typeset Alphabet Bigz Dies (#127553) were used for the letters.  A Non-Stampin’ Up! Sizzix Alphabet-Endless Love was used for the “or”.  You could also use the Witches Brew DSP (#132185) or Witches Brew MDS #134925.

The “Ghost” background (top photo) was the front side of the DSP and the Polka Dot background (bottom photo) was the back side of the DSP.

Follow the same basic instructions HERE except hand cut the large Triangles so you are able to use almost all the DSP AND have enough triangles for both banners.  You need 11 large triangles for each banner.  You can also download the Frightful Sight DSP (#123144)  for My Digital Studio and the Petite Pennants Punch (#127352) which you can make the size you want and fill it in with the DSP you want.  Print onto Whisper White card stock and cut out.  You can then finish as above.  About 5 feet of Baker’s Twine was used to thread the pieces together.

Birthday Balloon Card

I used the Birthday Basics Designer Series Paper on this birthday card for my son.  I like it’s bright, cheerful colors!
Nathan's Birthday 2013

SUPPLIES:
Stamp Set:  Bring on the Cake  w#128490  c#121958  MDS#124015
Markers:  Island Indigo
Bermuda Bay
Crushed Curry
Card Stock:  Coastal Cabana
Whisper White
Bermuda Bay (if you don’t have the Silver Embellishment)
Birthday Basics Designer Series Paper #130145  MDS#134847
Big Shot:  Woodgrain embossing folder #127821
Punches:  Square Punch – any larger size to cut banner end
Decorative Label #120907
Other:  Florishes Silver Embellishment and Brads (retired)
SNAIL or Tombow Glue
Dimensionals
Glue Dots
Paper Snips or Scissors

INSTRUCTIONS:
1.  Cut your Coastal Cabana card base at 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″.  Score and fold at 4-1/4″.
2.  Cut your Birthday Basics Designer Series Paper at 4″ x 5-1/4″.  Adhere to card base.
3.  Cut two strips of Coastal Cabana card stock.  One measures 1-1/2″ x 4-1/4″, the other is 1-1/4″ x 4-1/4″.  Use your Square Punch (or scissors) to cut the end of your Banner on the 1-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ strip.  Emboss the 1-1/4″ strip using the Woodgrain embossing folder.  Use the wider strip to cut the Banner end off with scissors.  Adhere the two Banner pieces together as shown.
4.  Color the Birthday Cake stamp with Markers.  I used Summer Starfruit for the candle flames, Raspberry Ripple for the Candles, Bermuda Bay for the Cake and Cake Stand, and Island Indigo for the Happy Birthday.  Remember to remoisten the ink on the stamp before stamping it on Whisper White card stock.  Punch out with the Decorative Label Punch.
5a.  Silver Embellishment Option.  If you are lucky enough to still have one of these:  Put in the brads and bend the tabs so the won’t show.  Hold them in place with Glue Dots.  Put several Glue Dots around the edge to hold the punched Birthday Cake image from step 4.  Now add the Punched Birthday Cake to the Silver Embellishment trying to center it inside the opening.
5b.  Card Stock Option.  If you don’t have the Silver Embellishment then punch two Decorative Labels from Bermuda Bay card stock.  Cut one in half lengthwise the other widthwise.  Trim off the points at the end.  Put SNAIL on the back of your Punched Birthday Cake.  Layer the lengthwise Labels first.  Add more SNAIL and add the widthwise Labels trying to keep the same amount of Bermuda Bay showing around the Birthday Cake image.
6.
Place Banner and Birthday Cake image in the desired positions.  I adhered the Banner with Dimensionals and the Silver embellishment with Glue Dots.  If I was using Option 5b I would put Dimensionals under the Birthday Cake image and adhere the Banner flat using SNAIL.
7.  Enjoy this colorful Birthday Card!

Halloween Trick or Treat Halloween Banner

Halloween "Trick or Treat" BannerThis “Trick or Treat” Halloween Banner is a quick and easy project if you have a Big Shot, the Perfect Pennant Bigz Die, and the Typeset Alphabet Bigz Dies.  It took me about 45 minutes to design the color scheme, choose the papers, cut the papers, find the Bigz Dies, and put it all together.  With the instructions you should be able to do it in about 15-20 minutes.  Enjoy making one for yourself!

SUPPLIES:
Card Stock:  Two sheets of each color
Basic Black
Tangerine Tango
Big Shot:  Perfect Pennant Bigz Die
Typeset Alphabet Bigz Die
Endless Love Sizzix Alphabet Sizzlits (not Stampin’ Up!)
Other:  Crop-o-Dile
Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue
White Baker’s Twine

INSTRUCTIONS:
1.  Cut six each 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ Basic Black and Tangerine Tango.  You can cut 3-4 layers of card stock with your Big Shot and the Perfect Pennant Die.  Place the card stock layers so they cover the two triangles that are next to each other.  Cut all twelve layers.
2.  Cut six each 2″ squares in Basic Black and Tangerine Tango.  Use the Typeset Alphabet Dies to cut out the letters.
~Basic Black:  T (3) I K E
~Tangerine Tango:  R (2) C A
~Small OR using the smaller Endless Love Sizzlits or hand cut them out.
3.  Assemble your Pennants.  Make six with the large Basic Black and the Small Tangerine Tango triangle combination.  Make 5 with the large Tangerine and small Balck triangles.  Stack in layers of 3-4 pennants and punch the corner holes using your Crop-o-Dile, hole punch or Paper Piercing Tool.  I chose the Crop-o-Dile because it could punch through multiple layers.  I used the smaller hole punch.
4.  Add your letters.  Lay out your Pennants starting with the large black, then the large Tangerine Tango Triangles.  Continue alternating pennant colors.  You should start and end with the large Black Triangles.  Now glue one letter on each triangle except the “or” which share a large Tangerine Tango Triangle.
5.  Cut 5 feet of White Baker’s Twine and thread it through the holes of your Pennants.  This will leave about 1 foot of Twine at the end of each side of the Pennant.  I went front to back with the first hole and back to front with the second hole in each pennant because I wanted the Baker’s Twine to only show where the corners connected.  Tie a little loop at each end to fit around the nails you are hanging it on.
6.  Hang up and enjoy your Quick & Cute Halloween Banner.  These are quick enough to make and give as gifts.  If you already have the dies each Banner costs about $1.25 in supplies.

Happy Labor Day!

Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. Read more about the History of Labor Day from the United States Department of Labor.  I am thankful that everyone in my family has a job.  I am thankful that different people like different kinds of work so all the bases get covered.  I am also thankful that we are continuing to improve working conditions in the United States.  There are always ways we can improve.  Everyone needs to work and do something to feel accomplishment and work helps raise out self-esteem.

I did make a MDS Card to celebrate Labor Day.  Enjoy spending time with your family and friends.

“Hi” Label Thinlit Card Die

I just got the Label Card Thinlit Dies and had to try them out!  This is a really quick way to make a fun card.  I also used the new Another Thank You Photopolymer stamp set for the little heart stamp.
Label Thinlit Card - Closed

SUPPLIES: Stamps:  Another Thank You Photopolymer #133454
Ink:  Cherry Cobbler
Silver Metallic Encore Pad  #132142
Card Stock:  Cherry Cobbler 6-1/2″ x 6″
Whisper White
Big Shot:  Label Card Thinlit Die  #133479
Other:  Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue
Gingham Garden Washi Tape #129314
SNAIL Adhesive
Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue
Craft Tweezers from your local Craft Store
Label Framelit Card - Open Front View

INSTRUCTIONS:
1.  Cut your Label Thinlit Card out with your Big Shot and Label Thinlit Die.  Crease the score lines with your Bone Folder.  Wasn’t that easy!!!
2.  Cut out two Labels from Whisper White using the Label die in the set.  Also cut out a “i {heart} u” from Whisper White and two “hi”s from Cherry Cobbler.  Watch this video if you need help using Thinlits Dies.
3.  Adhere a “hi” to each Whisper White Label.  Stamp a Little Heart to “dot your ‘i'” using Cherry Cobbler ink.  Adhere the Whisper White Labels to each side of the Label cutout on the card.
4.  Cover the Heart on the “i {heart} u” with Washi Tape trimming the excess off.  Adhere to your card in the desired position.  Note:  OR you can use the Small Heart Punch to punch out a heart to cover the Whisper White heart.
5.  Randomly stamp lots of little hearts using the Silver Metallic ink.
6.  Practice moving your card so you can see both sides of the Label.  Hopefully the person you give it to will enjoy it just as much!  You can write your note on the back of the card.  When it is folded it will fit inside a Medium Envelope.

“Love”ly Wedding or Anniversary Card

I have a couple of family anniversaries coming up plus a couple of weddings and I wanted to use the “Love” Expressions Thinlit.  I did two versions of the card with different colored layers.  Which color combination do you like best?

Look for a video on Wednesday showing how to use the Thinlit and place it on your card.  Friday there will be a video showing yout how to emboss the flap of your envelope so the receiver will know there is a really special card inside.
Love Wedding or Anniversary Card

SUPPLIES:
Card Stock:  Basic Black
Real Red or Very Vanilla
Modern Medley Designer Series Paper (DSP)  #126926
Big Shot:  Expressions Thinlits Dies #132171
Deco Labels Collection Framelits #130102
Other:  White Stampin’ Chalk Marker #132133 (For writing on the inside)
SNAIL Adhesive
Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue
Dimensionals
Toothpick
Tweezers-preferably the craft kind that stay closed and you pinch them to open them.

INSTRUCTIONS:
1.  Cut your Basic Black card base at 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″.  Score and fold at 4-1/4″.
2.  Cut your Modern Medley DSP at 4″ x 5-1/4″.  Adhere to card front with SNAIL.
3.  Cut two Deco Label Framlits in the desired sizes and colors.  I think I used the 2 medium sized ones.  Set aside.
4.  Steps 4 and 5 Video Link.  Cut “Love” in the desired color.  Gently poke the toothpick through the little holes in the flat side of the Thinlit.  Your word should easily come out.  If you have problems with it coming out use a piece of wax paper between the Thinlit and your card stock next time.
5.  Hold your “Love” with a pair of tweezers.  Spread a thin light layer of Tombow Glue on the back of your word.  Make sure the Glue is a thin layer or it will squish out and make a mess.  Hold your Gluey word above the smaller Deco Label and then gently lay in the desired position.  If you mess up, turn the Label over and try again.
6.  Layer your two Deco Labels together with Dimensionals.  Adhere them to the card front with Dimensionals.
7.  Write a Love Note inside using your White Stampin’ Chalk Marker.  It works just like a Markder without any of the frustration a Gel Pen sometimes gives us.
8.  Admire your “Love”ly Wedding or Anniversary Card.  You can mail it in a Very Vanilla Envelope.  I embossed the envelope flap with the new Beautifully Baroque embossing folder.

Happy Card Making!

Under Construction Boy’s Birthday Card

I made this Under Construction Truck card using My Digital Studio.  It was super quick and easy.  I just had to resize things and type in Happy Birthday!  What a fun card for a little boy who loves construction trucks!
Birthday e-card

MDS SUPPLIES:
Bday Under Construction  #133422

MDS INSTRUCTIONS:
1.  Choose Basic Gray paper for the card base
2.  Choose Whisper White paper as a page layer and crop to 4″ x 5.25″.
3.  Choose “Embellishments” and then choose “Bday Under Construction.  Choose the elements you want.  Resize them as you select each one.  They come out really big.  I chose:  Construction Vehicles 1, 2, 3, 4; and the Birthday in Progress sign.
4.  Choose “Stamps”, Designer Kits, and then finally Bday Under Construction.  I chose the construction cone stamp and colored it Only Orange.
5.  I then added a Text Box and typed in Happy Birthday to my grandson.  Then I emailed it to my daughter to show him.  He made me a digital card with PhotoShop and printed it up and mailed it to me.  My daughter is a PhotoShop genius!!

Happy Digital Stamping!
